Nixe Beauty is a small California company with one job: to make sure your first self-tan doesn't go wrong.
The name comes from the nixe — the water spirit of old European folklore, who lives where the river meets the light. We liked that she is made of the same thing as good skincare: water, patience, and something you cannot quite explain.
Why we exist
Almost everyone's first self-tan is a disaster. Orange palms. Tiger stripes down the ankles. Knees the colour of strong tea. Then, on day three, it comes off in flakes rather than fading.
The industry's answer to this is to sell you a better bottle. That is not the problem. The tan is decided in the ten minutes before you open it — by whether you exfoliated, whether you used a mitt, and how much you put on the dry parts of your body. Nobody explains that, because nobody makes money explaining it.
So that is what we do. We sell the mousse with the tools that make it work, in the right order, with instructions written by someone who has watched it go wrong.
What we stock
Self-tanning by Rose Gold Sunless — a woman-owned brand making vegan, cruelty-free formulas in small fresh batches, built around hyaluronic acid, Kakadu plum, watermelon extract and white tea. Dark neutral bronze, no red or orange base.
Prep and aftercare by Marée — the acids, scrubs and moisturisers that decide whether your tan lasts seven days or three.
And a short shelf of Solawave red light devices, because they are FDA-cleared and they are good.
How we choose
A brand joins Nixe when three things are true. It ships from its own warehouse in the United States. It puts its own name on the box. And it sells us the same formula it sells on its own website, in the same packaging.
That last one sounds obvious. It is the reason our list is short.
Shipped by the brand, not by us
Every order leaves the warehouse of the brand that made it. Nothing passes through us, nothing is repacked or re-labelled, and what arrives at your door is exactly what left theirs. An order with items from more than one brand arrives in more than one parcel. It is not the tidiest thing about us. It is the honest consequence of not touching your order.
The streak-free guarantee
If your first application goes patchy, tell us within 14 days and send a photo. We refund it. You do not ship anything back. We would rather lose the sale than have you go back to believing you cannot do this.
